Thinking about it makes a while since they played It Takes Two feel a little strange to me; after years of single-player narratives and single-versus-online video games becoming real, this outing found me alive and reminds you of how many new possibilities an entire genre can make into a co-op experience in this case – after just a little time to do it.
It Takes Two is probably a co-op action-adventure game you’re already familiar with. Developed by Hazelight Studios and published by EA in March 2021, it quickly became a mix of platforming, puzzle-solving, and emotion. Yet, as with any phenomenon, it’s when you play with someone else that you realize it’s much deeper: in the end, it’s not even a game, it’s an emotional work of art that can only be accomplished through cooperation, composed of the same main conclusion of the shared journey that replaces the rarely avoidable passenger in It Takes Two. In that spirit.
What is It Takes Two?
This is a co-op action game that you can’t beat alone. While most co-op games allow you to play mostly alone, with AI allies around you, that’s not the case here; the only way to play is split-screen or online against each other, and it strongly forces players to take responsibility. The game tells the story of Cody and May, whose marriage is about to be dissolved when their daughter is turned into a doll by a wish that they both don’t know. Trapped in a funny and comical perspective of the perilous reality, players must work together to solve puzzles, get back in sync, and find a way out.
